Titles
I just spoke to someone who is the Executive Remuneration Manager, pretty fancy title for a pay clerk if you ask me!!
So many people get caught up in what their title is. I have seen people fight to be called "The Manager" of something (getting them to manage is another matter). As long as I get paid I don't really care what I get called.(noxious old bat is not unheard of!!)
Maybe titles are a bit like designer clothes, people think you are smarter, wealthier and more desirable if you have a fancy title. I guess this is why balding, fat old men who are called the Chief Executive Officer get more offers from young women than the handsome buff Admin Assistant. Mind you the cynic in me says it is more about the pay packet than the title..
Experience has taught me that Human Resource Managers more often than not could not give a damn about the humans and many Customer Service Officers could care less about helping someone trying to force money into their hands.
Mind you I do think Storepersons are aptly named. Ever tried to get stuff out of the storeperson without taking back your inkless pen, giving back your empty ink cartridge and proving that you really do need another folder for your files. I have always said that if they were meant to give stuff away to staff they would be called the Give-out person.
I am currently called the Manager, Operations Support. I see myself as a bit of a flying corset trying to keep all the bits of the organisation in the right place all the time...come to think of it, it might be time to be upgraded to the Executive Manager Recalcitrant Bits.
