Kids
I left home when I was 18 to go to Uni and never went back. I remember when I got my first post uni job I rang my parents to tell them. When I said I had a job in Broken Hill in Far Western NSW (my parents lived on the north coast), my Dad said;"I thought you would come closer not go further away."
Too many years to count later I have left Broken Hill but have left one son behind. I remember telling Dad Stef was coming to visit me in Canberra and how excited I was. I said; "I miss him so much." Dad laughed and said; "Now you know how it feels."
I am in Broken Hill at the moment having a visit with Stef and he has just found out that he has a job interview today. He said;"I'm so nervous Mum." I can't fess up until after his interview that I too have the churning stomach. I have ironed his shirt, asked him questions and done all the things a Mum should do at times like this.
I can't wait for the interview to be over and hear in word for word detail what happened.
Funny, it also reminds me of my Dad coming to visit. I was shovelling loam for my garden. He carried on saying;"Let me do that, that's too hard for you." I said; "Dad, who do you think does it the other 11 months of the year when you are not here."
That is probably exactly what Stef is thinking right now!!
